Catherine Marshall Artist

I am a retired mother of four wonderful grown-up children and a proud grandmother to four fabulous grandchildren. I now live with my husband in the beautiful Wyre Forest area.

Throughout my working life, I divided my time between the charitable sector and floristry. In 1990, I founded The Lighthouse Project, where I served as CEO and Director, developing support systems and delivering non-vocational programmes across the boroughs of Sandwell and Dudley. During this time, I worked alongside Martha Lane Fox on the Government’s initiative to make IT and computers more accessible within the community. I was also honoured to receive the first Sandwell Woman of the Year Award.

Alongside my charitable work, I have been a florist for over 50 years, specialising in weddings and working as a preferred florist for several exceptional venues over the years. Creativity has always played an important role in my life.

My passion for painting the UK coastline began when I undertook a fundraising challenge for The Lighthouse Project, visiting every Trinity House lighthouse in just ten days. Each lighthouse was set against some of the most breathtaking coastal scenery in the country, and those landscapes stayed with me long after the journey had ended.

I discovered the joy of painting during Covid, and with it came the opportunity to capture the drama and beauty of the places that had inspired me over the years. I have also injected a little humour into my range with a range of quirky animals. What began as a hobby soon developed into something far more meaningful and fulfilling.

These days, I happily describe myself as an “olderpreneur,” embracing this exciting new creative chapter in life. After successfully exhibiting at the Gallery Museum, I am absolutely delighted to now occupy one of the studios at the museum, and introduce other associated artists with whom I’ve worked along my art journey
