Karen Baker

Potter working at table

Karen is a practising ceramicist/potter, graduating from Stoke-on-Trent with a B.A.(Hons) many years ago. She has produced work using a variety of techniques including throwing (on a potter’s wheel), hand-building and slip-casting. Currently she is using throwing to produce ’art-work’ and domestic ware for homes and interiors in Britain and France.  She shares studio 2 in the Shambles with fellow potter, Paddy Smith.

For over 10 years, Karen taught ceramics at Stourbridge College, and now puts her knowledge and experience into practice by putting on courses here at the museum, for people keen to have fun and try a new skill.  Currently available are ‘One Day’ courses, usually for those wishing to learn how to use a potter’s wheel, and 10 Week courses for beginners, where basic hand-building techniques are learned, including throwing on the wheel.  All courses run throughout the year.
