Bewdley Cherry Fair and 1940s weekend

Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 July

10am - 4pm

A free family event with something for everyone!

Sixty years ago Bewdley was the centre for a flourishing cherry trade and with a 200 year tradition of an annual Cherry Fair since at least 1817. So we hope that people may learn of former times and support our effort to rescue the different varieties of cherry. The event is a joint event with the Civic Society telling visitors the history of the cherry orchards in Bewdley. Read historical notes for the Cherry Fair courtesy of Bewdley Civic Society.

Throughout the weekend:

  • 1940's re-enactors
  • Children's actvities including a cherry hunt!
  • Classic cars
  • Craft stalls
  • Air raid shelter will be open
  • A host of cherries and cherry trees available to buy
  • Live entertainment:
    • Saturday 21 July - Kevin Mack 1940’s singer
    • Sunday 22 July -  Vintage Class Singers
    • Sunday 22 July - Dancefest presents 'Land Army'

Dancefest CMYK Big No Strapline (1)

Land Army

22 July 2pm and 3.15pm

Dancefest's Chance to Dance Company, with Rock and Areley Kings Chance to Dance group (funded by Wyre Forest District Council) present 'Land Army', a dance that explores long hours toiling on the land, the firm friendships that were forged and the sense of hope and celebration brought by VE day.

Dancefest uses the power and joy of dancing to enhance people's lives, enabling everyone to take park in, be inspired by, and express themselves through dance. Dance classes run weekly for all ages across Herefordshire and Worcestershire, including Chance to Dance classes for people aged 40 and over.
